Under the direction of the facility Administrator, the Activity Coordinator will plan, develop and implement a meaningful comprehensive activity program appropriate to the needs and interests of each resident. This includes but is not limited to: assessing residents' lifelong hobbies/areas of interest and accommodations needed to continue to pursue those; assisting residents to set measurable goals for involvement within their plan of care, evaluating each resident's progress and response over time, and regularly revising and adapting the program's scheduled offerings as the interests, needs and abilities of current residents change. The Coordinator must be able to stimulate interest of elderly and disabled residents in activity therapy with enthusiasm yet compassion and. and establish and maintain effective relationships with staff members from all departments and with the public, including volunteers, the media and residents' interested parties.
Within six months of employment, complete a recreation coordinator's orientation course approved by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA), or, have a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation, or have other education, training and experience approved by the DIA. Must have outstanding customer service and organization skills, excellent oral and written communication skills specific to the English language, must be resourceful, self-directed, and able to perform responsibilities with limited oversight or supervision. Must be able to work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends.

Supervisor/ team leader positions: This individual must be self-motivated to accomplish assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision and lead team members toward accomplishing common goals.
All positions: Must be free from communicable diseases. Recommend immunizations be current in accordance to recommendations by CDC (unless contraindicated due to allergy), or natural immunity acquired by illness with specific disease. Must pass criminal background and abuse registry checks and be eligible for unrestricted employment.
