Maple Manor Offers a Variety of Services with Resident Needs in Mind
Maple Manor Village Care Center offers short term "rehab-to-home" stays and hospice care. Those coming for rehab-to home care can take advantage of the physical, occupational and speech therapies conveniently located in-house. Therapists from the Northern Iowa Therapy Company come Monday-Friday to see patients requiring their services. Most rehab-to-home residents come for post surgery rehabilitation or illness to regain their strength and then return home.
Maple Manor Village, along with ABCM Corporation, share a Person Directed Care philosophy, believing that the residents are offered choices; they decide when to get up for the day, eat, bathe, etc. Our transition from the traditional medical model of nursing home care to Person Directed Care has been evolving in stages over the past few years. It has impacted many sectors of our care center, including how we physically use the building, how we staff nurses, how the dietary department operates and how we organize and lead activities.
Within Maple Manor Village, we have created three distinct "Neighborhoods." The three neighborhoods are: "Rosewood," the two south wings; "Main Street," the hallway connecting the north and south portions of the building; and "Spruce Ridge," the two north wings. Each neighborhood boasts its own recently renovated whirlpool spa. Our nursing department has implemented a concept called "consistent staffing," another aspect of Person Directed Care. Consistent staffing means the same staff are assigned to work with the same residents at least 85 percent of the time. This continuity of care within each neighborhood greatly enhances the relationships between residents and staff and also creates an atmosphere for better care. When caregivers know who they are caring for on a personal level, they learn their likes, dislikes, needs and preferences.
Our Dietary Department at Maple Manor Village practices Person Directed Care by creating open dining hours for all meals. Not to be left behind, our activity department conducts interviews of every new resident. The purpose is to find resident's personal likes, dislikes, hobbies and favorite things to do.
